Mondioring – Competitions

The 2023 Mondioring Championships are a challenge not only for many dog training enthusiasts but also for spectators. This year in Poland, there will be an opportunity to travel and see the competitions live, including in Gdańsk.

I hope that this season we’ll manage to join the ranks of the competitors. The decision and the idea to take part in the competition came about quite spontaneously, and we’ve got two months of hard work ahead of us, but perhaps we’ll manage to be ready in time.

Being aware of our shortcomings (the dog wasn’t meant to be a sporting dog), I’m currently trying to change the dog’s mindset and how it reacts in specific situations. The dog essentially performs all the defence work required to pass M1/R1, but I’m currently trying to work on changing the areas he bites. It’s not possible to switch from the jacket to the trousers in just two months – that’s far too short a time to achieve a high standard – so we’ll focus on improving the quality of the bites to the upper body.

In handler defence, training involves one tap and one every two taps (one hand touches the handler, two hands touch the handler) so that the dog has no doubts about what it is doing and when.

As this will be the first competition for both the handler and the dog, simply passing the level will be a success.
