First training session with your dog – mondioring
The first training session with your dog
is sometimes a journey into the unknown. A journey that can lead to wonderful moments of emotion, but also to difficult ones. Like any sport, mondioring requires discipline and commitment from its participants. Cooperation between the handler, the dog and the assistant or instructor is vital. A well-oiled machine will follow the planned scenario until it achieves success.
The first training session with a dog is also an opportunity to assess the dog’s temperament and its aptitude for development in the intended or planned direction. New instructions, new exercises – everything is new and exciting. There’s a rush of adrenaline and a sense of delight when the exercises go well.
The first training session reveals a great deal. The trainer spots any emerging problems and recognises the dog’s positive behaviours.
First Mondioring training session
Mondioring should be started whilst the puppies are still very young, before they go to their new homes. Nevertheless, not every breeder chooses to develop certain instincts when the puppies’ intended purposes vary. Part of the litter may be destined for Agility, another for Mondioring, and yet another for therapy work.
What can we achieve during the first Mondioring training session?
There’s no single answer. Depending on the dog and its breed, you might start by working with a chew toy and end up with the puppy’s first attempt at biting a leg. Yes, you’re quite right – this can be achieved as early as the very first training session. Subsequent sessions involve building on what was achieved during the first session, adding further elements related to that initial training, and learning new exercises.
